Sendai in 1954

The city the way I first saw it from Aobayama. When I came to Sendai most people walked, rode bicycles or used street cars. Children played in the dusty streets and dogs slept there. They were just planting Zelkova and Maidenhair trees along the city streets. The city finished building the observatory. Policemen directed traffic at busy intersections because there were no traffic lights in those days. Many men still wore their Army clothes and hats.
